A Local Ocean Advocate Concerned About the Effects of Shark-Attacks in the Caribbean

A local ocean advocate believes the media have heightened the fear of sharks, following recent attacks in the Caribbean.

Veta Wade says it is more likely for a person to die of cancer, heart disease or even a dog attack than by a shark.

A French tourist died following an extremely rare shark attack off the coast of St. Martin, while on January 9, a female student attending the Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine in St Kitts, was attacked and has undergone emergency surgery.

Wade says these incidents have drawn media attention that have caused persons to be worried about going to the water.
