New Drivers Licensing system Back Up and Running

The Traffic Division in the Ministry of Communication, Works, Labour and Energy has announced that the Drivers licensing System is back up and running.

In a press release MCWL says it was pleased with the July launch of  the system, developed by local software firm Rovika Inc. developed the new system under the ICT Project.

A breakdown of hardware associated with the old system late last year meant that motorist renewing their licenses were unable to receive a License Card for several months.

Rather than investing in the old system, MCWL says it worked along with Rovika to bring the new system into production.

It says the system is being delivered in a modular fashion with Vehicle Licensing module expected on stream in the next few weeks.

This will allow the ministry to issue the much-anticipated custom license tags amongst other improvements.

Regulations to allow for the custom licenses was approved in October 2019.

Once all modules are rolled, MCWL expects to see motorists being able to renew their Driver’s License online rather than having to visit office in Brades.

Speaking for the company Manish Valechha thanked the Government of Montserrat for its willingness to work with local talent to develop solutions to move the country forward. He says Rovika looks forward to the successful rollout of the online aspect of the programme, which will allow users to apply and renew their driver licenses online.

The Ministry of Communications Works Energy & Labour says it was happy to partner with local developers to build systems that can then be marketed outside of Montserrat.
