Agriculture Official Pleased With the Level of Local Food Production

An increase in local food production is pleasing agriculture officials.

Ministry of Agriculture has been on a push to increase the production of local food.

The government says it is committed to investing and reviving the agricultural sector.

Since the onset of the coronavirus pandemic it has introduced several initiatives such as the supply of water tanks, fencing wire and egg boxes to farmers, and topsoil to households across the island.

Fisherfolk were also supported through Covid-19 relief efforts.

The government’s efforts have been supported by the Caribbean Agricultural Research and Development Institute… CARDI.

They have been partnering with the Ministry of Agriculture, Lands, Housing and the Environment by providing planting material and input supplies to farmers, technical assistance to the Backyard Garden Initiative,  working with satellite farmers across the island - introducing new technology and enhancing capacity and skills, and  assisting in promoting food security during the COVID-19 pandemic
