The Ministry of Agriculture Moves Forward with Plans to Increase Local Food Production

The Ministry of Agriculture is on a drive to collect 500 avocado seeds this season.

This was announced by Minister of Agriculture the Honourable Crenston Buffonge via his Facebook page.

Mr. Buffonge says this drive is part efforts to increase local avocado production and to ensure the island can become more self-sufficient in local food production.

The Minister recently made an appeal for donations of seeds and other planting material in an effort to boost the island’s food security.

The Ministry is still calling on persons to donate breadfruit, various varieties of dwarf coconut and black pineapple slips.

Avocado, breadnut, cashew, citrus varieties to include swible sweet,  rough lemon and local lime, five finger, various guava varieties, golden apple, paw-paw, sugar apple and custard apple seeds are also being requested.

Persons with donations of seeds and seedlings are asked to contact the Ministry at 491 9278 where arrangements will be made for collection.
