The Government of Montserrat Takes an Important Step in the New Hospital Project

The Government of Montserrat is moving ahead with the long awaited new hospital project.

This week, the Ministry of Health and Project team takes an important step forward with the planned visit of the architectural organisation, Article 25.

The Project Management Office, which confirmed the visit, says all being well, and with adherence to all COVID-19 protocols, the visit will enable the team to gather important insights to finalise the design options for the healthcare facility.

Speaking in Parliament recently Minister of Health, the Honourable Charles Kirnon stated that the company is currently engaged in detailed remote information gathering sessions with various stakeholders on Montserrat.

This is to ascertain how many persons work in the various sectors and the types of equipment and functions, to provide the adequate space necessary in the hospital.

According to Mr. Kirnon, these activities inform the next stage of the preliminary design, which will provide the preliminary figures for the hospital.

Article 25 is responsible for reviewing previous design work on the hospital, which will have a minimum of 24 beds—with the capacity for expasion to meet peak demands.

 The consultants will also provide logistical plans for decanting from the current facilities.

The new hospital project is part of the 30 million pound Capital Investment Programme for Economic Growth.
