Former Manager of MUL in Support of Montserrat Transitioning from Fossil to Renewable Energy
Former Manager of the Montserrat Utilities Limited Peter White is supporting the position of the Government to transition Montserrat from fossil to renewable energy.
He says there is a growing concern regarding the dependence on imported fossil fuel for the island’s energy needs.
His comments were made at the Montserrat Virtual Conference and followed a statement by Minister responsible for Energy Dr. the Honourable Samuel Joseph at the start of CARICOM Energy Month.
Dr. Joseph stated that investing in renewable energy would reduce operating cost and lower the cost of electricity for households and business, stabilize energy prices, create new jobs, and decrease leakage of foreign exchange.
White says this effort would require cooperation and involvement of all stakeholders.
Mr. White says Montserrat must make use of its own resources.
