A Scoping Mission for Montserrat Soon to Gauge the Island's Capacity to Meet Sustainable Development Goals
The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) office for Barbados and the Eastern Caribbean is soon to undertake a scoping mission for Montserrat.
The aim is to support the economic transformation pillars that would help the island build on or develop its Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Word on this has come from Natural resources and environmental manager with the UNDP, Nicola Simpson.
Speaking on the “Blue Zone” programme on Radio Montserrat Wednesday, Simpson, who is also a marine biologist, says the aim is to create that enabling environment where the government of Montserrat, as well as other governments in the region can feel they have the capacity for increasing human development, and also to help them meet some of the regional and internationally-agreed goals and commitments inclusive of those SDGs.
With the key areas covering governance, sustainable solutions, climate, prevention, recovery and resilience, and more recently players within this blue space, Simpson explains what these central aspects stand for in a changing environment.
