Sea and Land Survey For Sub-Sea Fibre Optic Project Completed
Montserrat is now a step closer to being reconnected with the International Subsea Fibre Grid. This follows the successful completion of Sea and Land survey works conducted by a team of surveyor’s on board research vessel ‘RV Ridley Thomas’.
The team of surveyors traveled to Montserrat to examine the proposed routes in which cables for the Sub Sea Fibre Optic Project will be laid.
The marine survey forms part of the work required to install a new sub-sea fibre optic cable system for Montserrat which will reconnect the island to the global information superhighway, via submarine fibre optic cables linked to Antigua and Guadeloupe.
Director of the Department for information, Technology and e-Government Services (DITES) Denzil West told ZJB news that the recent marine survey went very well and that Montserrat is now ready for the next phase.
West also highlighted the importance of the Sub -Sea Fibre Optic Project.
The installation of the cable is expected to be conducted in the second quarter of 2020.
