Premier Romeo: Margaret Annie Dyer Howe will be Remembered for Her Dedication to Montserrat

Death A  Pays Tribute to As the tributes continue to pour in for one of Montserrat’s foremost Protagonists, Margaret Annie Dyer Howe, the Honourable Premier Donaldson Romeo, says the island has suffered a tremendous loss.

Meantime, the Montserrat Public Service is mourning the loss of the Former Government Minister.

The Honourable Deputy Governor, Lyndell Simpson in a press release describes Mrs Dyer-Howe as a truly exceptional woman and a national heroine who was a campaigner and advocate for women rights, equal access to universal secondary education for all, and led a movement to have St Patrick’s Day declared a national holiday among others.

She said Mrs Dyer Howe, who was a former Minister of Education, Health and Social Services and a former Minister of Agriculture, Trade, Lands and Housing was the embodiment of a true servant of the people and her legacy will continue to be felt for generations to come.

Lady Annie Dyer-Howe served as a member of the Montserrat Legislative Council for about 15 years from 1979 -1987 and 2001 to 2009 and was awarded the Montserrat Order of Excellence in 2018 for her exemplary contributions to Montserrat.

Mrs Simpson said Mrs Dyer-Howe was an extremely patriotic woman who never lost her love for Montserrat and was truly devoted to advancing the cause of Montserrat’s democratic institutions and bettering the lives of all Montserratians. Hence, her life and legacy will live on in the hearts and minds of all who had the privilege to know her, learn from her, and work alongside her.

 The Honourable Deputy Governor says Montserrat has lost a national icon, a stalwart, an educator, a politician, a teacher and a woman entrepreneur; worthy of emulation.

She laments that this is truly a sad time for the Montserrat Public Service who is honoured to have had the opportunity to serve Montserrat alongside Mrs Dyer-Howe.

On behalf of the Montserrat Public Service and her family, Mrs Simpson sends prayers and condolences to Mrs Dyer-Howe’s husband Robert, family and loved ones.
