Secrecy of Ballots Protected, says Elections Supervisor
The Supervisor of Elections is assuring the voting public of the integrity of the system in place to preserve the secrecy of ballots.
Mrs. Claudette Weekes statement is in response to a finding revealed by the 2019 general election observation mission that ballot papers are potentially traceable. She says with the exception of a judge, no one has access to a voter’s information.
The mission is recommending that the practice of the Electoral Commission complies with the law which stipulates the requirement for numbering. This way the marked ballot cannot be traced back to the voter, undermining the secrecy of the ballot.
This recommendation was also included in a report issued following the 2014 general elections.
