Public Servant Challenges Regulation Prohibiting Officers From Contesting Elections
The public servant who has mounted a challenge against the Deputy Governor and Attorney General for infringing her constitutional right to contest the upcoming election will have to wait to have the matter heard.
Legal arguments from both sides will now be presented to the Judge on Friday October 25th 2019.
Vickie Stephenson through her lawyer Warren Cassell, believes the general orders sections which prohibits civil servants from contesting the general elections while employed with the government is unconstitutional.
Attorney Cassell outlines the basis of the motion.
Stevenson is requesting that an order be imposed to restrict the Deputy Governor and the Attorney General from taking steps under the guidelines, pending the final determination of this matter.
Justice Ian Morely has agreed to fast track the matter so that a decision can be delivered before Nominations Day which is on November 7th, 2019.
