King Rabo Prepares To Represent Montserrat In Calypso Contest
The hopes and dreams of the Montserrat community ride on the broad shoulders of Kenneth Rabo Silcott as he prepares for Leeward Islands calypso competition in Anguilla.
Rabo, Montserrat’s reigning calypso monarch will be the first calypsonian on stage on Saturday.
He is competing against contestants from Antigua, Nevis, St. Kitts, US Virgin Islands, the British Virgin Islands, St. Maarten and hosts Anguilla.
They will be competing against reigning Leeward Islands monarch Trevor “Zacari” Weekes from Antigua.
Rabo will perform “Lend A Helping Hand” in the first round and “Brother’s Cry” in the second.
He says both songs were released in Anguilla ahead of the competition.
Musical arrangements for the show will be provided by the All Star Band under the directorship of Clffette “Ip” Isaac from St. Kitts and Wilbert “Waggy” Brooks from St. Thomas.
The winner will receive 4,000 US dollars, the first runner up 2,000 US dollars and second runner up 1,000 US dollars as well as trophies.
The consolation prize for other contestants is 325 US dollars.
