Chamber Of Commerce Recruits Members
A local network whose goal it is to advocate on behalf of the business community has started a campaign to increase its membership.
The Montserrat Chamber of Commerce on Wednesday night hosted a networking event which brought together over 30 entrepreneurs. President Mrs. Florence Griffith Joseph says the cocktail is the first in a number of events that will provide support to the local business community.
Mrs. Florence Griffith Joseph sees the high attendance as an indication of the business community’s strong desire for a vibrant and supportive organization. Several persons at the event commented that they wanted the Chamber to be active and strong.
The President in her welcome remarks emphasized the importance of the Chamber to the development of a country. She advised that if Montserrat is to thrive, it is imperative that the business community recognize the need for unity.
Mrs. Griffith Joseph appealed for entrepreneurs to be well-organized and always willing to engage in conversation with each other, and with the political and administrative leadership.
The Chamber meets monthly, on every third Wednesday evening. Other planned activities include a Feature Address and Conversation on a different topic each month. The topic for September will be Montserrat’s Labour Code, for October – Taxes and Concessions and for November – Government and the Private Sector.
The Chamber will host a Festival Fete in December. Elections will be held in January 2019.
