Former Government Minister Calls for Changes to Election Voting System
A former government minister has called for changes to Montserrat’s election voting system.
Adelina Tuitt says the nine-member constituency in which voters could vote for nine candidates has not worked.
She says the voting system, which was introduced in 2001, does not allow the voters to have proper representation in the Legislative Assembly.
Mrs. Tuitt was speaking at a recent public meeting organized by the electoral reform commission.
The current electoral system was introduced for the 2001 elections after volcanic eruptions rendering four of the seven constituencies uninhabitable.
