Premier Romeo concerned about the treatment of Montserratians by the British Government
The Honourable Premier Donaldson Romeo has expressed his concern over how aid is delivered to Montserrat.
He was at the time addressing MP’s at an inquiry by the Foreign Affairs Committee in the House of Commons on Wednesday.
Premier Romeo stated that, as a British Overseas Territory, Montserrat has first call on the British aid budget.
Citing acting 73 of the UN Charter, Mr. Romeo pointed out to members of the Committee that the UK has an international and legally binding responsibility to meet the urgent, basic and development needs of its British Overseas Territories.
He is therefore puzzled by its treatment of Montserratians.
Premier Romeo questioned the delays in aid funds that have had disastrous effects on the economy.
