Firefighter

The Government of Montserrat is inviting applications from suitably qualified persons for the post of Firefighter, within the Montserrat Fire & Rescue Service.

JOB PURPOSE

To protect lives and property through efficient and effective emergency response associated with firefighting, extrication, performing search and rescue and casualty care. To ensure that all fire service equipment and appliances are in a state of operational preparedness.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Responding to all emergency calls for the purpose of saving lives and protection of properties;

  • Extinguishing all fires and carrying out rescue operations; 

  • Performing Ambulance duties and providing casualty care; 

  • Carrying out search and rescue operations; 

  • Carrying out daily inspection and equipment testing according to fire service procedures;

  • Cleaning and performing preventative maintenance checks of all fire service vehicles and equipment; the Fire Stations and the surroundings; 

  • Answering the telephones and or radios and taking reports when required;

  • Issuing of fire permits and providing quality customer service at all times;

  • Carrying out regular building inspections in compliance with the Fire Service Legislation and the Building Code;

  • Carrying out routine inspection and tests of firefighting equipment to include; fire extinguishers, smoke alarms, fire alarm systems and other firefighting equipment;

  • Assisting in the investigation of fire cause and determination;

  • Carrying out quarterly test and inspection on fire hydrants and reporting faults to your supervisor;

  • Conducting lectures, educational activities and programs, and fire drills at schools and the general public;

  • Fully participating in all training and development programs in accordance with the Fire Service Policy;

  • Maintaining the requisite level of physical fitness necessary to carry out all duties as a firefighter;

  • Undertaking any other lawful duties as may be assigned by the chief Fire Officer

PERSONNEL SPECIFICATIONS


Candidates must;

  • Be between the ages of 18 to 35 years;

  • Be physically and medically fit;

  • Have at least three CXC O'levels to include both Math and English;

  • Possess a good character and be a team player;

  • Be willing and quick to respond to emergency situations off duty;

  • Be willing to work unsociable hours; 

  • Have good communication and analytical skills. 

 A driver's license would be an asset.

REMUNERATION

Salary is in the scale R39 – R28 that is EC$29,076.00- EC$44,304.00 per annum. 

Allowance

Lodging - EC$4,320 per annum
