English Teacher

Applications are invited from suitably qualified persons for the post of English Teacher, Secondary Education, within in the Ministry of Education, Youth Affairs Sports. 

JOB PURPOSE

To teach English Language at CXC CSEC levels at the Montserrat Secondary School.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Teach the subject to groups of students as specified by the CXC syllabus.

  • Prepare students to write CXC exams and provide support with the completion of SBA’s.

  • Differentiate instruction thereby providing students with appropriate learning experiences.

  • Plan and prepare the required schemes of work and lesson plans for the effective delivery of the English programme.

  • Assess and track students’ performance on a regular basis using different assessment formats.

  • Maintain the required registers and records, reports and other documents as specified by the Department of Education, and report on students’ attendance, behaviour, attainment and progress.

  • Assist with extra curricula activities and the care of the school’s assets.

  • Assist with maintaining discipline among students in schools, on the school grounds or when attending or participating in activities sponsored or approved by the schools.

  • Attend and or participate in PTA’s so that critical educational matters can be shared with parents/guardians.

PERSONNEL SPECIFICATIONS

The applicant should possess:-

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in English Language from a recognized University.

  • A Certificate, Diploma or Associate Degree in Teacher Education from an approved College or University; 

  • At least three (3) years of relevant practical teaching experience in the field of English Language at the secondary level where you have been in active teaching duty over the last three (3) years. 

  • Familiarization with teaching Caribbean Examination Council/ Caribbean Secondary Examination Certification (CXC/CSEC) will be a very useful asset. 

  • A clean Police Character Certificate 

TERMS OF APPOINTMENT

Appointment will be made on a contractual basis in the first instance after which permanent arrangements may be considered.

REMUNERATION

Basic salary is in the scale R16-12, that is, EC$64,164.00 - EC$70,920.00 per annum.
