Montserrat has moved a step closer to having certified FIFA referees. The Montserrat Football Association facilitated a three-day training workshop conducted by CONCACA refereeing development co-ordinator Malcolm Ramsey. The training was held at the MFA facility in Blakes. The sessions covered essential areas including hand gestures, positioning, correct flag technique, communication between the referee and assistant referee, and how officials can position themselves strategically throughout a match. The participants also completed tactical and physical exercises, including the Assistant Referee Intermittent Endurance Test (ARIET). This type of training is specific to the demands of match officiating, combining forward running with lateral movement. Participants also completed a technical field session focused on fitness and coordination, followed by and a seminar to strengthen their knowledge and understanding of the game. Ramsey was assisted by Concacaf Referee Instructor Jermaine May and Fitness Instructor Alan Brown during the three-day course, supporting technical capacity-building and the continued development of refereeing across the Montserrat.

Montserratian wicket-keeper batsman Joshua Grant has been selected in a powerful 13-man Leeward Islands Hurricanes team, to take on the West Indies Academy on Wednesday in the regional four-day championship. Leeward Islands Hurricanes, will be led by Rahkeem Cornwall with Hayden Walsh Jr as his deputy. The governing of the Montserrat Cricket Association is a concern for local cricketers.   Jemuel Cabey says all things wrong with cricket on Montserrat can be fixed with a new cricket executive.   The all-rounded who has made it his mission to invest in himself, is encouraging other young people to do the same. Cricketer Kriston Yearwood is encouraging young aspirants on Montserrat to make their own opportunities. Yearwood was speaking to zjb news of his recent stint with Ealing Trailfinders CC for the 2024 UK Domestic Cricket Season. He says local cricketers should not let the lack of facilities stifle their progress.
