Montserrat has moved a step closer to having certified FIFA referees. The Montserrat Football Association facilitated a three-day training workshop conducted by CONCACA refereeing development co-ordinator Malcolm Ramsey.
The training was held at the MFA facility in Blakes.
The sessions covered essential areas including hand gestures, positioning, correct flag technique, communication between the referee and assistant referee, and how officials can position themselves strategically throughout a match.
The participants also completed tactical and physical exercises, including the Assistant Referee Intermittent Endurance Test (ARIET).
This type of training is specific to the demands of match officiating, combining forward running with lateral movement.
Participants also completed a technical field session focused on fitness and coordination, followed by and a seminar to strengthen their knowledge and understanding of the game.
Ramsey was assisted by Concacaf Referee Instructor Jermaine May and Fitness Instructor Alan Brown during the three-day course, supporting technical capacity-building and the continued development of refereeing across the Montserrat.
