Government Commits to Increasing Proportion of Renewable Energy Requirements on Montserrat

The government of Montserrat is committed to increasing the proportion of energy requirements that are met from renewable sources. It also has major ambitions for the economy, including the foundational economy. It is against this background that minister with responsibility for energy Honourable Veronica Dorsette Hector says the government is aiming for affordability and sovereign resilience within the sector.  She outlined that the emphasis is on renewable energy which is not just an engineering matter but one of national security.

Energy Department Sets Sights on Renewable Energy Transition

Efforts are being made by the energy unit here to push forward with the renewable energy transition. This from energy officer, Oswen Carty. He was speaking to ZJB News at a geothermal site as they completed maintenance works on the well. Mr. Carty says that geothermal energy is the most promising renewable energy source for Montserrat at the moment.  He also discussed the energy department’s other focus areas, including energy efficiency.
