Priority Areas Identified for Disaster Management and Emergency Response Support for Montserrat

A series of priority areas for disaster management and emergency response support for Montserrat have been identified. This follows an official 3-day visit to the island by Executive Director of the Caribbean Disaster Emergency Management Agency (CDEMA) Elizabeth Riley. During the April 27–29  visit, Riley engaged  in a series of meetings with Government Officials and key stakeholders.  She told ZJB News that agreements had been reached on several immediate actions aimed at strengthening support and coordination on the island.

Caribbean Disaster Emergency Management Agency Reaffirms Support for Montserrat

The Caribbean Disaster Emergency Management Agency, CDEMA, has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Montserrat’s disaster preparedness and resilience efforts. This, on the heels of an official 3-day visit to the island by CDEMA’s Executive Director Elizabeth Riley. In an interview with ZJB News Wednesday, Riley said her visit comes at a critical time, providing an opportunity to reconnect and better understand the government’s national priorities. During the visit, Riley met with Government Officials and other key stakeholders discussing CDEMA’s Strategic Plan 2022–2027; the Government of Montserrat’s priority areas requiring support from CDEMA; Updates on support provided by the CDEMA Coordinating Unit to Montserrat; and other matters of mutual interest. Riley said a major focus was the island’s newly approved country work programme for disaster resilience. Meantime, Director of the Disaster Management Coordination Agency Lt. Col. Alvin Ryan has described the visit as a success, and praised the continued support and collaboration of CDEMA.
