Montserrat’s acting Premier emphasizes the significance of St. Patrick’s Day March 17 for the people of Montserrat
Acting premier, the Honourable Veronica Dorsette-Hector, has highlighted the significance of St. Patrick’s Day to the people of Montserrat.
Delivering the St. Patrick’s Day message, on behalf of substantive premier, the Honourable Reuben T. Meade on Monday March 17, Dorsette-Hector emphasized that March 17, 1768 remains a highly significant date in the history of Montserrat and its peoples.
She pointed to this date when the forefathers of Montserrat decided to take a stand for a better life - one free from the oppressive, unjust and brutal system of slavery.
Honourable Dorsette-Hector outlined that as a people, the fight goes on for a better life for all.
Meantime, the curtains were drawn Monday night on the St. Patrick’s Day activities.
Scores of Montserratians, friends of Montserrat, and visitors converged on island for the ten-day celebrations which began on Saturday March 8 with the lighting of the symbolic flame.
The festival was marked with cultural and theatrical performances, concerts, street parade, sporting events and fetes.
