Statistics Department Montserrat Announces National Accounts Survey of Economic Activity 2024

The Statistics Department is in the process of organizing the data which will be used to compile the estimates of Gross Domestic Product (GDP) for Montserrat for the period 2024 and a revision for 2023.

GDP measures the market value of goods and services produced by a particular economy over the course of a calendar year. In order to compile the estimate of GDP, a range of local businesses are surveyed.

The data provided allows the Statistics Department to compute an overall GDP figure, to measure the contribution of each sector to the GDP and to measure the extent to which economic activity has increased or declined during the reporting period.

The data for this survey is requested under Section 7 of the Statistics Act (Cap 6.02) and all selected establishments are requested to complete the form for the period 2023 and 2024. It is therefore an offence to refuse to complete the survey form.

The completed form should be sent to the Department of Statistics on or before Monday 2 June, 2025. Persons having difficulties completing the form can contact the Statistics Department.

The Statistics Department has a responsibility under Section 12 of the Statistics Act (Cap 6.02) to keep all information received in strictest confidence. The information cannot be shared with any other Government Department or agency.

The Department also cannot publish any information in a form that allows individual enterprise data to be readily identified. All data are aggregated across the sectors to further ensure that individual information is not disclosed.

The Department needs the Public’s support as they provide statistics that describe the economic conditions of Montserrat for 2023 and 2024.
