Opposition Urges Full Transparency in Montserrat’s Budget Talks with UK Government

The Parliamentary Opposition here is hoping that all the issues affecting Montserrat’s forward development are being laid on the table this week, as deliberations continue between the government of Montserrat and the Foreign Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO).

Appearing on the “Eyes on the Country” radio programme Tuesday night, both the leader of the Opposition, Honourable Paul Lewis, and Honourable member of the Opposition, Nyota Mulcare, stated the importance of the meeting to arrive at a needed economic strategy on the way forward for the island.

The Government of Montserrat started discussions with the United Kingdom Government’s FCDO on the island’s 2025-26 budget on Monday this week,as the Budget Support Mission (BSM) convened.

Previously known as the Financial Aid Mission, BSM allows for an agreement to be made on the budget allocation, and for key discussions on the Government of Montserrat’s strategic plans, and progress being made on priority areas.
