Top of the Line Equipment to Allow for Effective Passenger and Baggage Screening at Montserrat’s Ports of Entry

Ports on Entry on Montserrat will soon be fitted with top of the line equipment to allow for effective passenger and baggage screening.

The Governor’s Office has announced the arrival of four new dual-view x-ray luggage scanners, two of which will be positioned at the John A Osborne airport and the other two at the seaport, funded by the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO).

The new equipment ensures Montserrat can meet new International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) security requirements to enable effective screening of all passengers, cabin baggage and hold baggage.

This project forms part of a broader package of security support provided by the FCDO to develop the island’s local capacity and capability in security

The Governor’s Office is also reporting that a training programme for Border Officers to enable operation of the new machinery is ongoing.
The office further revealed that later this year the island is expected to receive explosive trace detection machines, for both the airport, and the seaport.

The Governor’s Office said this important work, alongside the scanners for immigration use, and the recent SeaCop training are all part of the continual development of local equipment and teams, to keep Montserrat safe.
