Premier Farrell Announces New Ministry of Communication and Digital Transformation

Premier, the Honourable Joseph Farrell has announced the creation of a new ministry.

During his budget address earlier this week, the Leader of Government business announced that in line with its commitment to digital advancement, the government will create the Ministry of Communication and Digital Transformation.

This would incorporate DITES and other IT-related services across GoM – including cyber, regulatory, infrastructure, and solutions.

He declared that this strategic move, underscores his government’s dedication to harnessing technology to drive economic growth, enhance public services, and empower citizens.

All government facilities are interconnected by a robust wide area network, and a growing number of internal systems as well as customer facing online applications are already in use.

Premier Farrell stated that the roll out continued with additional fibre connections to the St. Johns Health Center, Salem and Cudjoe Head clinics, the new control tower and the PMO Office.

On the software development side, the GoM Procurement Portal was significantly advanced and work started in earnest on a Registry application for births, deaths and marriages.

According to the Premier Montserrat is poised to leverage on its existing infrastructure and on-the ground resources to enhance and upgrade its effort under the banner of digital transformation.
