Writer Calls for Story Telling To Be Included In Schools Curriculum
A call for the Ministry of Education here to consider storytelling as a curriculum tool.
This from, A-dZiko Simba, a writer, storyteller and spoken word artist, who facilitated Storytelling in the Curriculum Workshop on island.
Simba says sessions explored storytelling as a tool for teaching cross-curricular subject.
She says while this specific workshop targeted the Primary level, there is also a place for storytelling at the secondary school.
The virtual workshop, which took place on October 17th, as part of this year’s staging of the Alliouagana Festival of the Word, targeted over 30 primary school teachers on Montserrat.
The teachers were able to get a basic understand of effective story telling, identify key curriculum topics and weave them into engaging stories, develop strategies to actively engage children in both telling and exploring stories to enhance learning outcomes.
