The Montserrat Arts Council (MAC) Calls for a More Stable Investment in Culture to Improve Festivals’ Outputs
A call for a more stable investment in Montserrat’s culture.
Director of the Montserrat Arts Council (MAC) Kenneth Silcott says culture is expected to play a large part in the island’s economy, and it is therefore important that effort is made to improve the festivals.
This year, MAC has been allocated $964,200 in Government subvention $251,700 less than last year.
Silcott says this current budget will make it that more difficult to execute a successful carnival in December.
Silcott says the budget cuts will also have serious implications for the quality of this year’s festival.
With the budgetary shortfall this year Mr. Silcott is calling for more sponsorship from the private sector.
