Parliament Passes Law To Establish Montserrat Tourism Authority
The government has tabled legislation in the Legislative Assembly to establish a tourism authority here.
The new law enables the Montserrat Tourism Authority to regulate tourism on the island, and is charged with developing the tourist industry in Montserrat and use measures to advertise, promote and market the island as a tourist destination.
The new body will also be tasked with undertaking research to develop the tourist industry and to guard against factors that may affect the local tourist industry.
Once established, the Montserrat Tourism Authority is expected to prepare and submit a business plan to the government on development of tourism on island.
The establishment of the Montserrat Tourism Authority was welcomed and supported by the Leader of the Parliamentary Opposition Honourable Paul Lewis.
However, Mr. Lewis, who took some credit as an advocate for its establishment, says the MTA needs to be properly fund.
