Public Works Department ready to begin Road Resurfacing Works with New Hot Mix Plant

The Public Works Department within the Ministry of Communications, Works, Energy and Labour is putting the final pieces in place to start its road rehabilitation project.

The New hot mix plant is now ready for commissioning and the resurfacing work will start on Wednesday September 20th.

Appearing on ZJB Radio Monday, newly appointed Road traffic safety coordinator, Winston “Kafu” Cabey said the planned resurfacing work would start on the Robert W. Griffith Drive, just in the area of the Little Bay Public Market.

The Hot Mix Asphalt Plant will play a pivotal role in ensuring that Montserrat’s road surfaces adhere to international standards and are more resistant to wear and tear, improving the quality of the current transportation system.

Additionally, in conjunction with the final commissioning of the Hot Mix Asphalt Plant, the Contractor will work closely with the Public Works Department to carry out essential road repair work during this period.

The Ministry will strive to minimize inconveniences during this period of road repair and commissioning activities.

Open lines of communication via official channels and announcements will be available to keep residents informed about any temporary traffic diversions that may become necessary.

Meantime, as part of their commitment to capacity building and skill development, the Ministry of Communication, Works, Labour, and Energy plans to conduct training sessions during the commissioning period. These sessions will cover operators’ and maintenance training for the Asphalt Plant.

By equipping the workforce with the necessary skills and knowledge, the MCWLE aims to ensure the long-term sustainability of Montserrat’s road infrastructure projects.

The MCWLE is excited about the positive impact this project will have on Montserrat’s road infrastructure and the opportunities it will create for the skilled workforce.
