Government of Montserrat Distributes Food Vouchers
The Government of Montserrat began the distribution of food vouchers on Thursday.
Vouchers were distributed at the Salem Daycare Center and the Look Out Community Center.
The initiative will enable each household on Montserrat to purchase up to $300.00 worth of grocery supplies from participating supermarkets.
Director of Social Services Terisina Fergus is encouraging persons to collect their vouchers in the areas they have been assigned.
She says persons have until September 15 to use the voucher.
The distribution of the vouchers will take place in Salem and Look Out again on Friday, before moving to the Brades Primary School and the Davy Community Center next Monday and Tuesday, and the DMCA and the St. Peters Old School Room on Wednesday and Thursday.
Opposition member of parliament Honourable Donaldson Romeo is commending the government of Montserrat for its initiative to help households who have lost food items during the recent power outages.
However, while commending the efforts to help the food challenges, Mr Romeo is urging the government to also consider the plight of small businesses on island.
