Premier Farrell briefed in London on Darwin Plus grants
Government and non-governmental organizations in Montserrat now have access to grants under a new round of funding under the Darwin Plus environment fund.
During his visit to London, Premier the Honourable Joseph Farrell discussed the Darwin Funding Scheme with officials at the Department of Environment, Food and Rural Affairs.
The scheme, financed by the United Kingdom Government, is providing funding for large scale projects, driving transformative change, and to support knowledge building for nationals in the Overseas Territories.
It includes Darwin Plus Local, which is a new scheme within the existing UK government’s Darwin Plus fund, which funds projects to protect the unique biodiversity and improve resilience to climate change within the UK Overseas Territories (UKOTs).
There is also the Darwin Plus Local, which is being introduced to support small scale environmental projects in the OTs, with the aim of building capacity in-territory and contributing to local economies.
For this second round, Darwin Plus Local will provide grants of up to £50,000 for organizations, and £20,000 for individuals for projects lasting for a 6-month maximum duration.
Darwin Plus Main invites applications for environmental projects from 100,000 to 1,000,000 pounds for projects lasting between 6 months and 3 years.
During his visit to London, Premier the Honourable Joseph Farrell discussed the Darwin Funding Scheme with officials at the Department of Environment, Food and Rural Affairs.
Among the projects financed under the Darwin Initiative are the Montserrat recycling and Waste Reduction Initiative, Restoring and Safeguarding Wetlands in the Caribbean Overseas territories, and the marine Turtle Action Plan.
