Montserrat Observes International Women's Day

Montserrat joins the global observance of International Women's Day on Wednesday, March 8.

The day recognizes and celebrates the women and girls who are championing the advancement of transformative technology and digital education.

To mark the occasion, the Social Services Department has organized several activities including a radio discussion, radio tips, and a cricket match featuring several teams made up of all women from across the island.

The main event, a walk and sensitization programme will take place on Saturday, March 11.

The walk against domestic violence will start at 4:30 at the former Lime Complex in Brades.before making its way to the public market in Little Bay.

International Women’s Day is celebrated under the theme “DigitAll: Innovation and technology for gender equality.”

The 2023 observance will explore the impact of the digital gender gap on widening economic and social inequalities and spotlight the importance of protecting the rights of women and girls in digital spaces and addressing online and ICT-facilitated gender-based violence.

International Women’s Day is celebrated annually on 8 March. It offers an opportunity to reflect on progress made, to call for change, and to celebrate acts of courage and determination by ordinary women who have played an extraordinary role in the history of their countries and communities.
