Youths Called To Action To Raise Awareness of Climate Change
There is a call to action to youths in Montserrat and in the region to help raise awareness of climate change.
The Caribbean Community Climate Change Centre (5 C’s) launched a youth-focused campaign entitled “I deserve a Better Climate For My Health on January 26.
The campaign is an urgent call to action to young people ages 9-30, across the 16 CARIFORUM territories, including Montserrat, to advocate for immediate action to address the health-related issues caused by the global climate crisis.
Using evidence and stories of real young people, the campaign will ensure that Caribbean youth are viewed, supported, and recognized as critical agents of social inclusion and are at the heart of resilience efforts.
Every month, from January to June 2023, the CC-CCC will roll out a mix of campaign activities which includes taking a selfie for climate and health, a youth forum, a walk for climate and health or a clean-up initiative, writing a letter to my leader and competitions comprising art, photo, poetry and my climate and health story.
The Campaign is being executed in collaboration with the Pan American Health Organization/World Health Organization under the European Union (EU) funded 2020-2025EU/CARIFORUM Climate Change and Health Project.
The project targets the strengthening of national/sub-regional health systems to better manage the impacts of climate change on the health of the Caribbean people and on health services and delivery systems.
Youths in Montserrat are invited to join in taking action for Climate and health by utilizing the campaign tool kit, which includes guidelines and social media content for young people and partners to initiate communications across all networks – driving awareness and participation. The resources include posters, an infographic, an email signature banner, social media cards,a colouring page, and the campaign PSA.
