Ministry of Communications and Works Permanent Secretary Attends Regional Workshop on the Digital Workforce

Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Communications, Works, Labour and Energy- MCWLE, Colin Fergus, was invited to and presented at the Caribbean Telecommunications Union CTU’s ICT Week 2023 this week.

The Government of Barbados, in collaboration with the Global Government Forum, hosted the event, under the theme ‘Embracing a Digital Caribbean: Opportunities for Growth and Innovation’.

During the ‘Developing the Digital Workforce’ session, Mr. Fergus presented ‘Developing Montserrat’s Digital Workforce: Navigating Challenges and Opportunities’, where he discussed the complexities faced by the Government of Montserrat with its ambition for rapid digital transformation.

He also explored the strategies enhancing cross-government digital workforce management, talent development and the recruitment and retention of senior digital leaders.

He said that the island is at a pivotal moment in the evolution of the digital landscape and embracing innovation and fostering collaboration across sectors are essential steps to ensuring a prosperous and digitally empowered Montserrat.

The two-day Caribbean Digital Summit, October 16 and 17, was supported by knowledge partner, the Canadian Bank Note Company, at the start of CTU’s ICT Week.

This allowed leaders to travel to Bridgetown for five days of digital discussions and activities that will help accelerate digital transformation and development for the Caribbean region.

The summit brought together national and departmental digital chiefs from across the Caribbean for open, informal discussion of the opportunities and challenges around public sector digital transformation, with the aim of allowing senior officials to share their experiences and challenges in order to help achieve effective outcomes and better delivery for citizens.
