Government of Montserrat Welcomes Passage of Labour Code Amendment

Premier, the Honourable Joseph Farrell has expressed his delight that the amendment to the Labour Code Act has been passed into law as a safeguard for employees.

He says government has been trying to introduce a minimum wage on the island for some time.

Premier Farrell says they are aware that a number of workers are being exploited on the systems depending on ethnicity and or soccial status, and that something has to be done to end this behaviour.

Meantime, Parliamentary Secretary Honourable Veronica Dorsette has said that the passage of the amendment to the Labour Code Act is a good first step but there now needs to be a critical dialogue with employers.
