Three Small Businesses Receive Assistance

The first set of small businesses here have received assistance under the Small Business Relief Fund .

Cheques were handed over on Friday My 27 to John Buffonge of Bobo’s Meat and Vegetable Shop, Gertrude Ryan of the Treasure Spot Café and John Fergus of the People’s Place at Hill Top.

Premier the Honourable Joseph Farrell says the the Small Business Relief Fund was developed by the Government of Montserrat to provide financial relief to businesses impacted by Covid-19 pandemic, and who may not be able to access funds under the Enterprise Development Scheme.

The Small Business Relief Fund is being administered by the Ministry of Finance and Economic Management

LOCAL BUSINESS COACH RECEIVES AWARD

A local entrepreneur has received an Honorary Special Recognition award from the Caribbean Women Inventors and Innovators Network…CaribbWIIN.

CaribbWIIN, a conference celebrating and recognizing women in research, creativity, development and enterprise, awarded Author and businesswoman Nerissa Golden for what they have described as “her contributions, achievements and commitment to positively affecting the lives of humankind.”

In receipt of her award, Golden said she appreciates the recognition.

CaribbWIIN, is part of the Global Women Inventors & Innovators Network (GlobalWIIN), established in 1998 as a non-profit, non-governmental, non-political global organisation with the head office based in London, United Kingdom.

GlobalWIIN continues to stage initiatives that have taken place across parts of Europe, Africa, Northern America, Middle East and Asia Pacific.

SCHOOL YEAR EXTENDED BECAUSE OF COVID-19

The Ministry of Education has announced an extension to the ongoing academic year to compensate for time lost due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The academic year, which was scheduled to end early July, will now conclude July 29th. 

Students on Montserrat lost significant time away from the classroom since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020.

The Ministry of Education implemented remote learning and learning packages for students as a means of ensuring continued learning.

However, according to Permanent Secretary Lyston Skerritt students are still behind in their curriculum.
