More Assistance To Farmers On Montserrat
The Government says it is holding true to its promise to provide concessions to farmers.
Minister of Agriculture the Honourable Crenston Buffonge has indicated that Cabinet will soon make a decision on a water subsidy.
He says that a cabinet paper is being circulated for in input and discussion by stakeholders including the farmers.
The water subsidy has been a longstanding request by the farmers to help boost production, and lower overhead costs.
So far the government has provided irrigation systems and damns at a cost of over $200 000, free planting material including planting slips and yams valued at over $30 000, and cold storage equipment for poultry farmers
Mr Buffonge says other forms of assistance to the farmers are under consideration.
