Service Men and Women Honoured in Remembrance Day Ceremony
A national service of remembrance was held on Sunday, at the cenotaph in Little Bay.
The service was organised by the Deputy Governor’s Office and paid homage to those who fought in World Wars I and 2 and other conflicts around the world.
In remembrance of the ex-servicemen and women, Her Excellency Acting Governor, Lindel Simpson; Premier the Honourable Joseph Farrell; Commanding Officer of the Royal Montserrat Defence Force Lieutenant Colonel Alvin Ryan; Commissioner of Police, Steve Foster and President of the Montserrat Legion, Major Joseph Lynch laid wreaths as symbols of respect for those who contributed to this noble profession.
Persons in attendance at the Service witnessed a display of ex-servicemen, military and paramilitary personnel, other uniform bodies and dignitaries participating in a procession.
Members of the Montserrat Christian Council conducted the service.
In Montserrat, Remembrance Day is observed annually on the second Sunday in November, and is set aside to honour and pay tribute to those who fought in World Wars I and 2 and other conflicts as well as those who served in various armed forces.
Major Lynch, called for the public to pray for peace, referencing the current unrest in Ukraine and Russia, while Premier, Farrell and Her Excellency Mrs. Simpson, thanked the service men and women for their dedication and sacrifice.
