New Hospital Project Reaches Final Design Stage
One of the most important infrastructure projects in Montserrat’s history has progressed to the design stage.
Officials have reported that a preliminary design has been selected for the New Glendon Hospital and is ready to go to design development.
The new hospital is part of the CIPREG five year capital investment program by the British Government worth 30 million pounds.
Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Health and Social Services Camille Gerald says a steering committee which included representatives from both the British and Montserrat governments looked at three design options developed by the company Article 25.
She explained that each design had to go through what she called an options approval process.
After careful deliberation one before one was eventually selected for submission to the Cabinet.
The new hospital will cost approximately 15 million pounds.
It will be located at the present hospital compound in St. Johns compound with thirty beds initially with the capacity to increase to to 31 if needed.
Mrs. Gerald says the new hospital will be a very modern with all the expected amenities.
