The Government of Montserrat Hints at Interest in Restarting a Ferry Service
The Government of Montserrat has signaled its interest in restarting a ferry service.
The Procurement Division has been instructed to seek interests from potential ferry operators.
The Framework Agreement for Passenger Ferry Services between Montserrat and Antigua is for a period of three years.
According to the Division, the operator will be required to provide sea transport services for people traveling to and from Montserrat including lifeline support to the emergency services.
The Contractor is also expected to work with a range of stakeholders including Tourism; Customs; Health officials in Montserrat and Antigua; Docking and Harbour Services, on Montserrat & Antigua.
The length of the vessel – at least 25 meters –, a closed cabin, and a speed of no less than 18 knots are expected to be key aspects of the contract.
The ferry service, which was suspended in May 2020 provided an important service to traders before the suspension last year.
