Montserrat 750kW Solar Photovoltaic (PV) Plus Battery Storage Project Almost Ready for Commissioning
The Energy Unit in the Ministry of Communications, Works, Labour and Energy is reporting much success with the Montserrat 750kW Solar Photovoltaic (PV) plus Battery Storage Project.
It says the project continues to progress smoothly in the final installation/construction stage.
The Energy Unit says works on the five (5) solar PV arrays are practically
completed, while the control building, Medium Voltage Power Station (MVPS) and Battery Container are more than 90 percent complete.
It says that over the next few weeks, the project will begin commissioning the solar PV and Battery System in Grid-Mode.
This, the energy Unit says places the GOM on target to meet the EU KPI of having the system operational before the end of September 2021 deadline.
Meantime, in related news, Nationals and residents of Montserrat who are interested in the energy sector, now have an opportunity to gain some work experience in the field, through an internship programme, being implemented by the Caribbean Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (CCREEE).
Under the programme, the successful individuals will work with the energy unit, MCWLE, during the
period July 26 to September 3, 2021, and will be required to work in close collaboration with regional and national institutions to collect energy-related
data for Caribbean territories.
