 Parliamentary Secretary, Honourable Veronica Dorsette Hector says the positive contributions by men to the community will be celebrated on International Men’s Day.

International Men’s Day will be celebrated on Friday November 19th with a specially-organized event at the Credit Union Hall in Brades.

Mrs Dorsette Hector says it is important that men are promoted as positive role models in the community.

She says the conference will look at gender equality and metal health among other matters.

 CALL TO SCRAP REQUIREMENT FOR PUBLIC OFFICERS TO DECLARE ASSETS

Are the requirements under the Integrity Legislation too intrusive?

The matter was scrutinized during a recent public consultation organized by the committee task with reviewing Montserrat’s integrity structures.

At issue is the fact that public officers in Montserrat are being asked to reveal more information than any official in the United Kingdom, including politicians. Under the current law officials are required to declare their assets along with their liabilities.

 PLANS IN TRAIN FOR GIS DAY ON NOVEMBER 17

Geographic Information System Division of the Ministry of Agricuclture, Lands, Housing and the Environment, is gearing up for GIS Day on Wednesday November 17th.

GIS day is a worldwide event that celebrates the technology of Geographic Information Systems (GIS).

It will be observed here in Montserrat with an event at the Multi purpose Sports complex in Little Bay.

GIS Manager Lavern Ryan says this would include creative activities, interactive demonstrations and presentations that illustrate how GIS technology is used in Montserrat.

 LITERARY FESTIVAL AIMS TO UPLIFT THE ARTS IN MONTSERRAT

More details are emerging on the planned 2021 literary festival, the Alliouagana Festival of the Word (LitFest).

Coordinator Nerissa Golden says it will be a hybrid event this year, with several face-to-face and virtual events running from November 18th to the 20th.

She adds that the vision for the festival, going forward, is to promote literacy arts on Montserrat, especially authors living locally and in the diaspora.

The activities range from the Children’s Parade on Thursday November 18th, to an Author’s Gala on Saturday November 20th,where persons can meet and speak with eight authors on the island who will be showcased at the Gala.
