Premier Joseph Farrell Announces Additional Support from the British Government to Assist with Budget Deficit and COVID-19
Montserrat’s leader of government business, Premier, the Honourable Joseph Farrell says his administration continues to engage the Foreign and Commonwealth DFID Office in discussion to finance whatever the potential budget deficit may be, and also for further COVID-19 support
He was responding to a question posed by the leader of the opposition at Tuesday sitting of the new Parliamentary year.
Mr. Lewis probed the Premier on an earlier statement he made about his discussion with Her Majesty’s government about favourably making up the budget shortfall
Premier Farrell further gave the assurance that the 2020/2021 budget deficit would be much less than the earlier predicted figure of 22-million dollars.
He also announced that the British government would be providing additional budgetary support to the government of Montserrat.
Premier Farrell was also asked to provide an account of government spend for relief and stimulus, and how much was used from government’s reserves
