Visitor Arrivals Takes Expected Hit Due to the COVID-19 Pandemic

Visitor arrivals took an expected dip following the onset of the Coronavirus pandemic.

The latest data from the Statistics department show a fall of 41.2% in arrivals to the island for the period January to July.

7,897 visitors arrived on Montserrat for that period, 5,550 less than the same period in 2019.

Of the total number of visitors, 1,578 arrived by air and the remaining 6,319 arrived by sea.

Arrivals in March dropped sharply by 14% following lockdowns in many countries, and the closure of the Montserrat’s borders on March 25.

Director of Tourism Warren Solomon says this also translates into a decrease in visitor expenditure.
