More Time to Consult on Proposed Modification to Physical Development Plan for North Montserrat 2012-2022

The physical Planning Unit has announced it is giving stakeholders more time to consult on the on proposed modification to the Physical Development Plan for North Montserrat 2012-2022.

According to the PPU stakeholders now have until September 30 to state their position as it relates to the zoning of lands in Upper Belham and Fort Ghaut in the Plymouth area to allow for sand mining.

A public meeting is also being planned in the next 2 weeks.

In keeping with the Physical Planning Act, which guides the procedure for revision, and modification of the Approved Development Plan, public consultation is required on the matter.

As such, a town hall a meeting is planned for the Montserrat Cultural Centre on September Thursday 24th at 5pm .

The meeting seeks to ensure that residents in the immediate and surrounding areas, stakeholders, and all interested parties are aware of the proposal to extend the mining zones, and are allowed the opportunity to provide feedback on, and raise any related concerns or issues they may have.

The Physical Planning Unit says the concerns of the public will be taken into consideration.

The documents on the Physical Development Plan for North, Montserrat 2012-2022 can be downloaded from the Government website at www.gov.ms.  

All comments should be submitted by 30th September, 2020.

The extension of the mining areas was requested by the sand mining companies, who want access to better quality material in the upper reaches of the Belham Valley and in Plymouth.
