Supreme Court to Soon Facilitate Electronic Payments
Soon persons will be able to make payments online to the Eastern Caribbean Supreme Court.
This is being facilitated by an amendment to the law at the recent sitting of Parliament.
The old method of having to affix postage stamps to court documents prior to filing them is being replaced.
The Court can now accept payment of filing fees by other means of payment.
This being part of the court’s e-litigation portal that makes court filing and the payments for court filing more efficient.
Attorney General Shree Jemmotte-Rodney says calls the move a welcomed advancement as people now adjust as to what will be the new norms to cope with covid 19
She says the changes seeks to provide for electronic and other methods of payment of court filing fees, limit the use of payment by postage stamps and eliminate the requirement for postage stamps to be affixed to filed court documents.
Payment of court fees can now be received by way of credit card, debit card, cash, cheque or other forms of payment.
