A Revamped Domestic Violence Bill Back on the Agenda
The Domestic Violence Bill is back on the agenda in the Legislative Assembly.
The piece of Legislation has been revamped, and was reintroduced in the Assembly by the Minister of Health the Honourable Charles Kirnon at last week’s sitting of Parliament.
The Domestic Violence Bill initially underwent the introduction and first reading on 19th December 2017.
However, it was stalled in a select committee, which was task with making improvements to the legislation.
Speaking at the recent Men’s conference Minister Kirnon indicated that the bill, this time around, provides greater balance for both men and women.
It seeks to provide greater protection for victims of domestic violence and to make provision for the for the granting of protection orders and for connected matters.
Meantime, Assistant Professor at the University of the Virgin Islands Dr. Gayle Ann Guy-Cupid explains that there needs to be a balance in the relationship between both partners.
