The Dates for the Closure of the John A Osborne Airport to Allow the Resurfacing of the Runway Have Been Confirmed

The Programme Management Office has confirmed the dates for the closure of the John A Osborne Airport to facilitate the resurfacing of the runway.

In a post on its facebook page the PMO says the planned dates are the 16th to the 25th of February 2021.

During this time period normal air operations will cease.

The PMO says while  work is undertaken before and after this time period, the airport plans to remain open except for those dates.

The PMO is also working with the Ministry of Health and the Procurement team to secure an alternative emergency medical transfer service for this time period.

It says further public announcements will be made soon about medical transfer services and general access arrangements during airport closure.

The resurfacing of the runway is funded by the CIPREG Programme, and will be delivered by Surrey Paving and Aggregate, headquartered in Jamaica, with a branch in St Kitts.

The Project continues to be supported by airport paving technical experts from AVIA NG Consultants, who will help to oversee the works.

The project will resurface the airport’s 600m runway and taxiway, improving friction performance and ensuring continued regulatory compliance for air access operations.

According to the Project Management Office, ASSI, the regulator of Montserrat’s air operations, continues to be engaged and is supportive of the Project’s execution plan.
