Opposition Leader: General Orders in Conflict with the Constitution

The continuing use of general orders to guide the operations of the public service has once again being placed under the microscope.

Former Union Head and leader of the Parliamentary Opposition, Honourable Paul Lewis says the archaic nature of General orders is making like difficult for workers in the public service numbering over 900.

Speaking on the latest opposition radio programme “Eyes on the country”, Mr. Lewis said the time has come for the legislation to empower the Public Administration Act be finalized.

He says the Constitution Order of 2010 ruled general orders unconstitutional and therefore outlaws its use.

The Opposition leaders says the aim of the Public Administration Act is to provide for the effective and efficient operation of the public service
